Welcome to Newbury Chess Club

For two seasons running (2022-3 and 2023-4) our A-team who were champions of Division 2 of the the Berkshire Chess League. Promotion to division 1 proved too much of a challenge. So having come bottom of this division, the team were relegated to division 2. However, our team captain could no longer guarantee to field a full team of 5 players for matches, so for the 2024-5 season we have withdrawn our team from the Berkshire Chess League.

We welcome players of all abilities. When we are not playing rated games, we play Social Chess in a friendly atmosphere, without obeying the rules to the letter (e.g. in a match, of you touch a piece you must move it; in social chess, just take it back as soon as you realise your mistake!)
